#KnowYourLemons: MFA Alumni Receives Global Attention

March 26th / By admin

Corrine Ellsworth Beaumont, MFA ’02, created the #KnowYourLemons campaign during her time at Utah State and has recently been receiving global attention.

Corrine Ellsworth Beaumont earned her MFA in graphic design from Utah State where she started the #KnowYourLemons campaign that brings awareness to breast cancer in a way that the public can finally see and understand. Corrine created and worked on this campaign for her Master’s Thesis, and as of late it has seen a ton of press and has reached over 166 million people! She has also been interviewed and featured by numerous news stations including BBC!

Due to censorship, there was a lack of knowledge of the signs and symptoms of breast cancer, but Corrine came up with the perfect metaphor for representing life saving information. Corrine had seen multiple people in her family and childhood friend pass away from breast cancer and decided to get to work and to create this campaign while she was a design student at Utah State. Her goal of this campaign is for it to reach offline as well to spread life saving information to women in developing countries.

The Know Your Lemons site and Facebook page feature images that show different ways that breast cancel can look and feel. Coming up with the perfect metaphor to represent what breast cancel could look like, Corrine encourages women to know their lemons and then to donate so research and education can be furthered. The website has been translated into 12 different languages and her brochure has been translated into 16.

What an incredible campaign to start and cause to be a part of. Way to go Corrine!
