State of Flow SLOMO

As students in the USU design program, we have been encouraged to find our state of flow. It’s the place where you are immersed in your work and harnessing the ultimate experience of performing and learning. As Wikipedia once put it “In positive psychology, flow, also known as the zone, is the mental state of operation in which a person performing an activity is fully immersed in a feeling of energized focus, full involvement, and enjoyment in the process of the activity.”
By learning to enter the state of flow we can increase your productivity, creativity, and happiness all at the same time. Psychologist Dr. Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi suggests that achieving the the state of “flow” on a regular basis is a key component of happiness.
We all get in our “Zone” in different ways. Some of us students find running clears our minds and allows a full stream of inspiration to flow in, others find this in drawing, painting, meditating, yoga, etc. There isn’t just one solution to get into a “State of Flow”, each person is unique and can experience flow in many different kinds of activities.
Dr. John Kitchin quit a medical career to pursue his passion of skating along the boardwalk of San Diego’s Pacific Beach, in which he found his flow. He calls himself “Slomo.”
